Asalto a Curupayty

A very interesting article on the Juegos de Historia blog  about the allied bloody assault on the Paraguayan defences at Curupaity during the Paraguayan War.

Once there are enough figures on the range it will be possible to game the battle.

Empress Now Stocking Kingscarbine Miniatures

Empress Miniatures are now the UK stockist for Kingscarbine Miniatures.

"These excellent figures sculpted by Steve May are full of character and will cover a woefully under-represented conflict. If you fancy something a bit different but fascinating and absorbing then this could well be the range for you!"

Paraguayan War "Kingsstarter"

Hi,

There's no release date for the Brazilian infantry yet as I decided to have the Line Infantry (Fuzileiros) done first. So, the next packs will be:

-Fusiliers, marching (w/ kepi; barracks cap)
-Fusiliers, skirmishing (w/ kepi; barracks cap)
-Fusiliers Command (2 officers, 2 standard bearers, 2 musicians)

Starting now I'll accept pre-orders for the miniatures as a form of crowdfunding. The miniatures for both armies will be sculpted based on stretch goals and on the amount of pre-orders raised. Basically for every three packs I'll need to raise £2000 for sculpting and production. As soon as that goal is reached the figures will enter the production line. For every £6000 achieved  a mounted command pack will be released (free for pre-orders). If you change your mind you can request a refund. All pre-orders are post free.

Cheers,

Nuno

Holidays

Hi,

Thanks all for the support. I just want to say that I'll be on holidays until August 16. All orders received after today will be mailed after that date.

Figures will be available again in September. Unfortunately due to  production costs I'll have to revise prices and will update them by the latter date.

Cheers,

Nuno

War games: never just child's play

A new exhibition at the V&A Museum of Childhood explores the history of playing at war.

The exhibition's earliest exhibit is a simple German board game, based on fox and geese, called the Art of Beseiging, from the start of the 19th century. Children played at war before then, but this period marked a dramatic change. Games have always mirrored technology, and real war was changing fast. Gunpowder weapons had become too powerful for armies to practise on manoeuvres as they once had. Leaders came up with solutions. In 1780, an adjutant to the Duke of Brunswick wanted to create a new version of chess that reflected contemporary battle conditions. His board had 1,617 squares, rather than 64, with varying terrains and many new pieces. This kriegsspiel (literally "war game") was very popular, and over the next decades the Prussian general staff developed their own variants. Superior generalship is widely agreed to have been one of the main reasons for Prussia's defeat of France in 1870-71, and gaming was, by then, a big part of Prussian leadership training.

"Just received my copy in the same post as some more figures from Perry. Possibly the best £20 I've spent. A fantastic effort. Can't wait for volume 2."

"Got mine today too. Really impressed spot on sir."

"Picked mine up today. Excellent quality and an interesting read. Good work, Nuno."

"Just received mine – excellent quality content, high production values – extremely good value for money.
Oh, and the packaging was incredibly robust – puts Amazon to shame.
Highly recommended – I'm hoping Nuno is tempted to produce some similar guides for other periods if he can match this quality."

Salute 2013 - Kingscarbine Miniatures

First figures and manikins have arrived from the caster. These two Paraguayan officers are the first of the range but lots more to come in the near future. Now that Steve has the manikins and equipment things will go much faster.

Salute 2013 - All Honour is Lost

I had a great day at Salute. Met many people personally -always good to put a face to a name- chatted with fellow gamers and made some new friends.

The book sold well and I was overwhelmed by the positive feedback of the buyers. Thanks must go to the Perry brothers and Steve May for having me there. Those guys are A-OK.

Press Release

Hi,

I'm working with Stephen May on a 28mm Paraguayan War range. I hope that this is the first of many projects coming out from Kingscarbine Miniatures (KCM) in the future. My aim is to concentrate on 19th century African, European and South American conflicts and provide the best 28mm figures for gaming the period.

My many interests range from the late 16th century until the early 20th century so you can expect some interesting and surprising ranges in the future.

More news soon.

Cheers,

Nuno

Scenarios Book Update

Hello all,

And thank you for your interest in the book. I've been working with the printer to make the best possible copies for gamers, within my budget and free-time.
We decided that the wiro/coil binding is the best option so I'm sending this message to know if people that requested the other binding option are still interested.

Work is still progressing and I hope to have all done by the end of the month/beginning of April.

There may be some design changes to the cover and pages but not too much from what I've shown.

Best Regards,

Nuno
